 Have a great summer

ATTN: Emerald Society Members; A wounded warrior who members of the Emerald Society met several years ago at the old Walter Reed needs our help. David Bixler, who lost both of his legs and was awarded the Silver Star for his heroism in combat has been medically retired and is working a new job out near Dulles Airport. He is moving from an apartment in Gaithersburg, MD to one in Herndon, VA this coming Saturday June 28. They have a U-Haul truck and some helpers lined up, but I have been asked by a group called Adopt a Soldier Platoon if we could get a few extra guys to help, especially someone with a pickup or SUV in case the U-Haul isn't big enough. Unfortunately, I have to work that day, but if anybody is available to help out please call Richard Sterne at 301-938-0075 for the address and contact info. They are planning to start around 0900-0930. Maybe some Virginia guys would be available to help on the Herndon end. I know it's last minute but if you can help, I'm sure it will be appreciated.

Congratulations to the 2014 Guy Moorman Gaelic Man of the Year -  Eddie Kauffman

Ed served as a Vice President of the Emerald Society for 8 years and is our long time "go to guy" for getting beer donated to our events.

Great Job, Eddie!

Congratulations to the 2014 Irish Woman of the Year -  Pat Healy

Pat is often considered the power behind the throne of "Mr. Emerald Society" Joe Healy.  She has toiled tirelessly behind the scenes for many years helping our organization run smoothly.  In fact, Pat was the recipient of the first Irish Woman of the Year award in 1998, she has been working hard for us long before that and has never let up.  Thanks for all you do, Pat!

The link is a cool story about the son of George Howard (former DCFD & ES who was killed on 9/11 as a Port Authority policeman) The son is now a NY firefighter and donated bone marrow to save a stranger.

The Emerald Society presented a check for $12,000 to the DC Firefighter's Burn Foundation to support the Burn Unit at the Washington Hospital Center and help burn survivors.  This donation came from the proceeds of the last few Emerald Society Fishing Tournaments.  Thanks to Wayne Klinger, Steve Muccino, Larry Settle and all the other Emerald Society members who work so hard to make the tournament a big success or just show up each year to support a great cause.
