The Emerald Society  "Firefighters of Washington DC" is a Firefighters based  fraternal and family organization whose goals are to forward the Irish tradition, give families of similar interest a place to meet, and raise money for charity

 

 

February 11th, 2012 - Local 36 extends its deepest sympathies, to the family, friends, & co-workers of Firefighter/Paramedic Joshua Weissman, of the Alexandria, Virginia Fire Department and a member of IAFF Local 2141. Josh died in the line of duty, while operating on the scene of an automobile fire on Interstate 395 on Wednesday February 8th, 2012. Anyone wishing to offer their condolences, or make contributions, may do so by visiting Josh's Memorial Page

Member’s on January 25th, 2012 members from Local #36, DCFD Emerald Society, Montgomery Co Fire Dept, Central Maryland FOOLS, Northern Virginia FOOLS participated in hosting a dinner for the Fisher House Foundation. Fisher House located at the Walter Reed National Medical Center at Bethesda is a housing unit for Veteran families to stay while their Veteran Family members are being treated. We ended up providing a meal for 100 plus Family, Veterans and friends at this event.  This was another great example of our Pride and Tradition in helping others. Local #36 would like to thanks all that came out to help and to ask that everyone pay attention for upcoming events. Coming together in solidarity only strengthens our brother/sisterhood creating the foundation of our Union.

Petra Wendstedt-Pulles an Emerald Society member from Eindhoven, The Netherlands is shown presenting 700 Euros (over $1000) to Dick Sterne for the Walter Reed Clothing Drive.  Petra is the Chairperson of the Screaming Eagles of World War II Foundation which is dedicated to keeping the memory alive of Holland's liberation by American soldiers during World War II, and especially the liberation of Eindhoven and vicinity by the "Screaming Eagles" of the 101st Airborne Division.  Thanks to Petra and the many other people and groups in the Netherlands who contributed to this worthy cause, including Tony Pulles, Oscar Baricz, Fred Scheurwater, the Immigration Police in Eindhoven, Tom Timmermans, Jet and Lies van Berkel, Nell Pulles, the Van Kamp family, Nelly and Francois Van Loo and the Screaming Ducks Living History Association.

To kick off the sale of the DCFD 9-11, 10th Anniversary Badge Sets, Elliot Goodman presented Dr. Jordan, Director of the Washington Hospital Centers Elite Burn Unit with the new badge set which commemorates and remembers the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001 and the D.C. Fire Departments presence at the Pentagon those tragic and memorable days.

The badge sets which are numbered consist of the badge, pin, case and matching box will be sold with a donation being given to the D.C. Firefighters Burn Foundation for each set sold. Also present was Jason Woods, President of the Burn Foundation who was presented with an initial donation of $1000 with additional donations to come.
